Are BANS Sites Still Capable Of Making Money For Beginners?

By Don Lawson

There was a time not too long ago that a program was created that used eBay auctions as content. All the user had to do was install the program on a webhost, plug in a few category numbers from eBay and the script would automatically. Needless to say, the Build A Niche Store program became an instant hit with Internet Marketers.

During that period time, beginning Internet Marketers as well as seasoned Pro's built multiple BANS sites. Some even went as far as to build huge networks consisting of hundreds of BANS sites. Many of these Marketers were pulling down 5 figures a month with their networks. Even the average Internet Marketer was making more with this program than they had with any other.

Then after about a year or so, a dark cloud came over the Owners of BANS sites. Google suddenly and without warning started delisting BANS sites from their search engine. BANS sites that were once sitting on the front page of Google for profitable keywords were no longer to be found. Some sites went from making 20 thousand a month to nothing as these sites lost their rankings.

As if the Google delisting wasn't bad enough, eBay then started dropping affiliates. Many who survived the Google delisting suddenly lost their affiliate status with eBay. Many people who were making a comfortable income with BANS suddenly found their self without income as eBay would no longer allow them to be affiliates and stopped paying commissions on sales through their sites.

The question now begs, is it even worth to use the BANS program? I think so. But the Affiliate Marketer has to remember that new sites must have quality content. Both eBay and Google want websites that are helpful and useful to the Internet user. Simply throwing hundreds of these sites up with no content is a sure recipe for disaster.

Are there alternatives to the BANS program? Yes there is. Now we have programs that will turn Wordpress into Affiliate sites using eBay auctions as well as a host of other programs that uses eBay to monetize their sites.

Make More Money With Your Adsense

By Michael Fleischner

Making a living on earning Adsense commissions isn't all that realistic. However, Adsense commissions are a great way to supplement your income. Ask website owners today about their earnings and you'll find that many supplement their income easily with the help of Adsense advertising. Ive learned how to increase my Adsense commissions over time and will share with you all Ive discovered.

Your Adsense revenue is dependent on a number of factors including which ads you display, where you display them, and how often. Here are some factors to consider before you place your next Adsense ad. Let's begin with ad placement. Certain locations tend to be more successful than others. Google has produced a heat map that illustrates the ideal placing on a sample page layout. All other things being equal, ads located above the fold tend to perform better than those below the fold. Ads placed near rich content and navigational aids usually do well because users are focused on those areas of a page.

While this suggested map is useful as a positioning guideline, I strongly recommend putting your users first when deciding on proper ad location. Think about their behavior on different pages, and what will be most useful and visible to them. You'll find that the most optimal ad position isn't always what you expect on certain pages.

For example, on pages where users are focused on reading a specific article, ads that are placed directly below the end of the content tend to do very well. It's almost as if users finish reading the content and ask, "What can I do next?" Targeted ads can answer that question and encourage users to take action.

Ad format. Some types of ads do better than others depending on your content and layout. In my case, large rectangles in the middle of the content are best, while leader boards do not generate as much as income. Sky scrappers are the worst performers for me especially if they are on the right-hand side of the page. This is somewhat counter-intuitive to what I had originally thought. Experiment and measure the results via channels and see which formats work best for you.

Ad colors. Sometimes ads blended into the content can work wonders, but sometimes ads that contrast your site colors work best. Test a variety of ad colors to determine if different palettes generate higher than average click through rates. Other than testing the actual palettes, there's really no other way to determine effectiveness.

Number of ad units on a page. Websites are allowed a maximum of 3 ads, plus one set of ad links, and one Google search box per page. Maximize the allowed number based on the resulting look of your page (you don't want an overkill of ads). Users going to your page and reading your content may ignore the banner or rectangle at the top of the page, but may click on the ad at the bottom of the article.

Experiment with the factors above and see which combination works best for your particular website. Remember that not all sites do well with Adsense ads. Even if you get lots of traffic but your visitors are not interested in looking for ways to spend their money, they won't be interested in your ads and won't click through.
