How To Set Up A Conference Call

By Richard Arnesdale

Conference calls are an incredibly useful business tool. Having a meeting over the phone, by video or online can save in both time and travel costs and can be a quick and easy way of organizing meetings at a moment's notice for people all over the world. So, how do you set up a conference call?

If you only need to hold a small audio conference call between two or three people then your existing office phone system will probably serve your needs quite well. Most phones nowadays have some kind of conference call facility that could be useful to you here. The way to set up these calls will not necessarily be the same with every phone system so you will need to check out how to do this from your own phone manual.

In many cases, however, businesses that make regular conference calls on a large scale will also/instead opt to use a call company who can manage their needs and facilitate their calls. There are many different providers on the market offering a range of options. The most common option here is audio conferencing where you have your conference call on the phone.

Set up options here will vary from provider to provider and you can generally choose how to manage your calls to suit you. So, for example, you might set up a service where you organize the whole event yourself. You may or may not need to make a reservation for the time you need -- again, this will depend on the company that you choose.

In most cases here the conference call provider will simply give you a number to call to access the conference line or bridge. Once you have dialed this number you will then enter the access code that the company also gives you to set up the line. Then, anyone else participating in the call dials the same number and enters their own access code and you'll all be hooked up.

Some conference call providers also offer the option of having an operator involved in setting up and managing the call. Here, for example, you could have the call provider's operator actually call up each of the people taking part and add them to the line/bridge for you.

Some operator managed systems will also give you a range of additional features. So, for example, the operator could also record the call, offer translation services and manage the way that the call runs. Some companies offering this service will then provide audio recordings and/or written minutes of the conference call which can save you time and allow you to concentrate on the call itself.

Bear in mind that you will pay more for conference calls with operator assistance and these kinds of call may need to be reserved in advance. Some companies opt for providers with a basic service for their everyday needs and then pay extra for operator assistance if and when they need it.

How to Write a Bartending Resume

By Brian J Williams

An essential step to getting your first bartending job is writing a good bartending resume. To write an effective bartending resume you want to take the skills you have learned on other jobs and translate them into bartending skills. This isn't as difficult as it may sound and it could be the difference that gets you that interview, where you will earn the job. Let's take a look.

Every job experience teaches up a new set of skills. Even if the job you are currently in doesn't seem to have any lessons if you look hard enough you will find them. One skill you see often on resumes is the ability to talk to people, or the characteristic of being a people person. Translated into a bartending school this could presented as using advanced upselling techniques to increase the profit per customer visit. Bar managers love when their bartenders understand the value of upselling, it is a skill you need to make sure they know you have.

A job skill you may have gotten in another job is conflict resolution. Bartenders deal with conflict on an almost daily basis. Whether it be between 2 staff members or with a slightly drunk customer, you are guaranteed to face conflict in a bartending job. Speak on your resume to your ability to resolve conflicts peacefully and maintain customer satisfaction.

Have you ever been to a restaurant where your water glass never reached the bottom and the server was bringing you another coke before you even asked? Did you end up telling a friend about the place? Bars and restaurants are very cognizant of the fact that they need positive word of mouth in order to survive. If you can show the owner that you will exceed customer expectations and get them talking about the place with their friends you will have become an invaluable asset to the owner. Show this in your resume and you will absolutely get an interview.

Inventory management is a skill that every bartender must possess. It isn't rocket science but rotating and maintaining a bar inventory is essential to its success. Organization skills are required to be an effective bartender. Just about any other previous job you have had will have required these skills in some way. Highlight them on your resume because bar managers and owners are looking for them.

You need to spend part of your resume developing trust. Bartenders handle lots of cash and owners and managers need to be able to trust their bartenders. Bartenders are also usually given more responsibility than the rest of staff in regards to getting keys, closing the bar, etc. Highlight your money management skills, not to show that you know how to count, but to show that other managers and owners have been able to trust you.

When hiring a new bartender, managers and owners are often concerned about the bartender's personality and skill set being the right match for the bars customers and employees. If you can establish the above skills in your resume you will have done a lot to assuage their fears and grant you a bartending job interview. The interview is where you will get the job but without a great bartending resume you can't get the interview. Follow the above tips and you are already on your way to getting a fantastic bartenders job.
